Join Dorothy from Cacao Source and Louis Vassar-Semanchik from Smallhold Farms for a mushroom chocolatier workshop. We will be integrating permaculture philosophy with the cultivation and consumption of our two favorite superfoods: cacao and mushrooms.

Permaculture is a design philosophy that uses the patterns of nature to build resilient, abundant systems. Although these systems are typically applied to the ecosystem, this workshop reveals how the heart of permaculture lies within human perception. Mushrooms and cacao grown responsibly offer insight into permaculture, as well as when consumed, offer depth into the human experience.

This workshop features cacao sourced fair trade from Guatemala and a variety of locally cultivated and foraged mushrooms. Cacao is a fruit grown in tropical regions. The seeds have all the same medicinal benefits as dark chocolate, and more, because of a different processing technique. Due to its love for rich, moist jungle, Cacao Source is using cacao to fund efforts in reforestation. Fungi are even more so an integral part of the ecosystem, from the forests to the human biome. We will discuss the role of fungi in the forest and draw parallels to their support in our body’s immune system and function.

Each participant will learn how to make chocolate and receive mushroom chocolates to take home.
