As Black Trans Femmes, we face many obstacles daily that dehumanize and deprioritize our peace. What does it mean to be present as a Black Trans Femme? We will explore this question through workshops focused on Mind, Body, & Spirit.

We invite anyone who identifies as Black AND a trans woman or a trans femme to attend.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Mind

We will begin with a community discussion facilitated by Diahann Browne. We will explore these questions (and more) as a group: What does it mean to be mindful? What does it mean to be present? How do we center ourselves in a world that rarely centers us?

Body

Next, DJ Rock will facilitate a stretching session to allow us to get into our bodies. We will give our bodies rest, try to release tension/stress that we may be holding onto, and focus on breathing. We want folks to be as present as possible by checking in with their bodies, and stretching their bodies in ways that feel good.

Spirit

In the spirit of music & play, workshop participants will develop a shared poetry practice that locates their Black, trans, femme selves in dignity, community, & lineage. Guided through short reading & writing exercises, participants will stretch into a present that holds all of us, our every cell & syllable, star material, such vast immeasurability!
