Video Of The Day: After Censorship Drama, Eurovision Contestant Miriana Conte Still Serves

She may have had to tone down her lyrics, but Malta’s Miriana Conte turned the volume all the way up.
She might not have clinched the Eurovision crown over the weekend, but Miriana Conte definitely served. In her music video for “Serving,” Malta’s defiant queer representative serves many things, attitude and glam among them. However, one item was intentionally left unserved.
The track—formerly titled “Kant,” a nod to the Maltese word for “singing” and an obvious play on words—was mired in controversy after Eurovision organizers deemed it a title too suggestive for prime time. “Of course I was disappointed,” she said about the European Broadcasting Union’s requirement that she edit the track, “but as a person I am very much composed. So I was pretty much over it by the time we were trying to find solutions. I like a challenge.”
