This Lesbian Sex Scene From ‘Arcane’ Just Got Its Flowers And Fans Are Screaming
The recognition of Caitlyn and Vi’s steamy scene sparked celebration among queer fans on X.
In a major moment for LGBTQ+ representation in animation, storyboard artist Joséphine Meis has been honored with the Annie Award for Best Storyboarding in TV/Media for her exceptional work on the season two finale of Netflix’s Arcane, titled “Killing is a Cycle.” Even more major is that the win celebrates the poignant and steamy love scene between characters Caitlyn and Vi—known as CaitVi to shippers—a portrayal that resonates deeply with fans.
When the episode premiered in November 2024, the intimate scene garnered widespread acclaim for its realistic and heartfelt depiction of lesbian love. Fans praised the series for its commitment to nuanced storytelling and representation. Later, it was reported that the original scene had been edited to avoid a mature rating, prompting a surge of support for the uncut version. A petition seeking the release of the full scene has amassed over 77,000 signatures.

Meis threw cold water on that idea in her acceptance speech. While she wasn’t in attendance at the awards ceremony, her speech was read aloud. “CaitVi Nation,” she said, “this [award] is for you… P.S.—there is no ‘longer version.'”
She also acknowledged the award’s significance. “Working on this sequence has been an honor. We don’t get so many occasions to show good queer representation in animation,” she said. “So I hope this opens a way to more scenes like this. We need it today more than ever.”
“We tried our best to give you the realistic, relatable, and sweet love scene that Cait and Vi deserve,” Meis added.
Arcane dominated at Sunday’s Annie Awards, aka the “Oscars of Animation,” by winning in all seven categories it was nominated for. In addition to Best Storyboarding, the series took home awards in TV/Media for Best FX, Best Character Animation, Best Direction, Best Music, Best Production Design, and Best Editorial.
