Oh My Glob! ‘Adventure Time’s Bubblegum and Marceline Are Getting Their Own Series

Adventure Time’s beloved Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen are heading back to the Land of Ooo, and this time, they’re taking center stage.

HBO Max has officially picked up Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, a new animated spinoff centered on the fan-favorite couple from the popular Adventure Time franchise. According to the official logline, the show will follow Bubblegum and Marceline as they “journey across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and brand-new dangers.”

The announcement marks the latest expansion of the Adventure Time universe following the success of Adventure Time: Distant Lands and the Emmy-winning Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. Another spin-off, Adventure Time: Side Quests, is set to premiere later this month.

Adam Muto will return as showrunner and executive producer after helming Distant Lands, Fionna and Cake, and the last six seasons of Adventure Time. The series is being produced in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios, with Fred Seibert and Sam Register also serving as executive producers.

“We can’t wait to see where Adam’s boundless imagination takes us in this new series,” Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, said in a statement. “It’s such a joy to go on another Adventure Time journey with our friends and partners at Cartoon Network Studios.”

The news is especially exciting for sapphic fans. Bubblegum and Marceline’s relationship became one of the animated series’ most celebrated queer love stories after years of subtext culminated in the pair sharing a kiss during the Adventure Time series finale in 2018.

HBO Max has already committed to a 10-episode order for season one, although a premiere date has yet to be announced.
