The Shot and Quote

Images and words that captured us

Hundreds of people turned out to express their support of marriage equality on March 26 and 27, when the Supreme Court heard arguments in cases challenging Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act. And they weren’t all LGBT activists. Some allies, like this couple, came to remind everyone that all marriages should be considered equal. (Photo by Elvert Barnes/Flickr)

…and the quote

“The compelling argument is on the side of homosexuals. That’s where the compelling argument is. ‘We’re Americans. We just want to be treated like everybody else.’ That’s a compelling argument, and to deny that, you have got to have a very strong argument on the other side. The argument on the other side hasn’t been able to do anything but thump the Bible.”

—Conservative Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly, when asked about his feelings toward marriage equality, in a March 26 broadcast.
