The WNBA or Love Island? All of the Queer Chaos from All-Star Weekend

From making 3-Point Contest history and StudBudz parties to accidental break-up confirmations and cheating allegations, this WNBA All-Star Weekend was filled with its fair share of queer chaos.

The greatest weekend to be a fan of the W has officially come to an end. Like the best reality shows, the league’s All-Star Weekend was packed with chaos, joy, and intrigue that kept us all glued to our seats. Now that the players have made their way home and the party has ended, let’s take a look at the deliciously chaotic time that was had.

Azzi Fudd – The Star of the Weekend

If anyone besides the fans came out a winner after All-Star Weekend, it’s Miss Fudd. From being the standout star of the StudBuds stream to dropping a 30-ball winning performance in the 3-point contest, she really did her big one. The only rookie to compete in this year’s 3-point competition, Fudd sank 30 points and went on to become the only rookie in WNBA All-Star history to win the contest. Her 30-point performance also became the 2nd-highest final-round score in a 3-point contest in WNBA or NBA history. And she did that all after spending the night before out with the StudBudz, no less!

Of course, fans eagerly watched Paige Bueckers’ reaction to the 3-point performance, which Bueckers ran to from another commitment! That’s dedication. There’s no doubt about it, that’s still her day-one shooter! Fudd received some love from her Dallas Wings teammate Jessica Shepard in the form of two water bottles dumped on her and quickly made sure Bueckers got wet too.

While the night two party was moreso just players standing on a curb waiting to get into a club, Fudd was seen on the StudBudz stream telling Natisha Hiedeman, her 3-point contest competition, that she was shooting too slowly and that’s why she was eliminated with only 17 points in the first round.

On the final night, Fudd went hard at the final party of the weekend throwing it back, downing shots of Hennessy with Stud and Bud, and refusing to give fan service to Pazzi shippers when “Love” by Keyshia Cole came on (IYKYK).

Paige Bueckers “Avoids the Stream”

While Paige Bueckers claimed she would be avoiding the StudBudz stream throughout All-Star Weekend, Bueckers finally caved on the last night, seeking out the camera, screaming along to “Love” by Keyshia Cole and even stripping on the dance floor.

Off of the dance floor, Bueckers had an exciting All-Stars, appearing on Sue Bird’s podcast, crossing up teammates Jessica Shepard in the big game and…what are we forgetting? Oh right, meeting President Obama!

Hard Launches and Break-Up Confirmations

The Orange Carpet gave many players their chance to pop out with new flings. Olivia Miles hard-launched with her rumored new girlfriend Elle Uyeda after soft-launching days before on socials. While rookie Miles was previously dating Maddy Westbeld the two have not been publicly linked for a while now. As Azzi Fudd said on stream, “Okay hard launch!”

Marina Mabrey was in the hot seat during the All-Star Weekend. Courtney Williams was begging Mabrey to come out with them when Mabrey protested that she didn’t want to get into any trouble. Williams then said, “Who you get in trouble with? you ain’t got a girlfriend no more.” However, a mysterious bouquet from an unknown sender posted by Mabrey might mean that there is a special someone in Mabrey’s life after all.

Speaking of the Mabreys, the Mabrey fam was out in full force including Michaela Mabrey who was there to support both her sister and her girlfriend Kahleah Copper. Mabrey and Copper have been publicly linked for a little while now but watching Mabrey sport a shirt with both Copper and her sister’s numbers on it was simply too cute.

WNBA legend Natasha Howard popped out on the Orange Carpet with a new boo, shocking folks who thought she was still married to Basketball Wives star Jac’Eli Duckworth. Duckworth posted on TikTok following Howard’s carpet appearance, saying, “I’m not gonna get on the internet and say much because I’m very emotionally intelligent and I play chess not checkers, but what I want y’all to do is believe what you wanna believe and a few months, I don’t want no apologies. Got it?”

Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes Were the Cutest

Despite the messiness of the league around them, Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes fed us adorable couples content all weekend long. From Williams calling Johannes an all-star in her life to coffee-making shenanigans, these two really do make us swoon.

Jonquel Jones Wins MVP and Apologizes for Hot Mic Moment

After a great performance in the All-Star Game, NY Liberty’s Jonquel Jones won MVP, becoming the first player to be named MVP across four different categories (All-Star MVP, WNBA Finals MVP, Commissioner’s Cup MVP, and Regular Season MVP). Jones got emotional at her press conference following the win while apologizing for a comment made to Courtney Williams on the StudBudz stream.

During the first night of the weekend, Jones said to Williams, “In 2024 I feel like you deserved it”, referring to the championship matchup between Jones’ Liberty and Williams’ Lynx, which Liberty won. Liberty fans felt Jones was being disrespectful to her own team in insinuating that she and the team deserved the win less than the Lynx.

“What I said didn’t really come out in the way I meant it. What I was just saying is that you can have a team that has a lot of chemistry, that is great on paper, that has had a great season, and it’s still not enough to get it done, and that’s what I was trying to explain to her with that whole clip,” Jones said in her statement to the press.

Who knows what’s going on here but we’re just glad they’re having a good time!

Everyone Claiming Videos of Them with StudBudz was “AI”

Despite what we all saw, players and even Coach Reeves spent the weekend claiming that videos of them out with the StudBudz were AI and not them. Sure y’all, whatever you say.

A’ja Wilson is *Not* a StudBud

In the tunnel before the big game, A’ja Wilson was wearing her shorts low when Hiedeman said “you a StudBud” to which Wilson jumped into the air, screamed, and quickly pulled her shorts up.

The Dijonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith of it All

Of course the weekend had to end on a high note with NaLyssa Smith seemingly getting escorted out of a party live on the StudBud stream and Dijonai Carrington choosing to air out that Smith had allegedly cheated on her with at least two of her Las Vegas Aces teammates. Yep. Take that all in.
