The Lesbian Sports Report: Everything You Missed This Week

From the WNBA to the World Cup and even gymnastics, this is your place to get caught up on the gay sports moments you might have missed!

Hello, sporty gays! Welcome to this roundup of everything that went down in the queer world of women’s sports this week. From the WNBA to the World Cup and even gymnastics, this is your place to get caught up on the gayest moments you might have missed!

WNBA (WNBgay)

As always, the gayest league in women’s sports was filled with queer moments, record breakers and yes, gayke (gay cake).

A’ja Wilson’s Annual Gayke

Back for her fourth year, power straight and league MVP A’ja Wilson has once again fulfilled her ally duties with another Pride cake for her queer teammates. This year was possibly the most extravagant with glitter rainbows, a glitter lesbian flag, a bowl of Froot Loops, and a sentence reading, “the closet had terrible lighting anyways.” We are dying to know what Wilson tells the bakery because these cakes just keep getting better and better. In a press conference with teammate Chelsea Gray, Wilson said of her queer teammates, “I love them a little bit more this month, because they need love, man!” She then ended the presser by congratulating Gray on her high assist count, saying “Congrats on your assists girl, see this is your month!”

Cheryl Reeve Lets Down the Gays

After Sunday’s Minnesota Lynx Pride Night loss to the Mystics, head coach Cheryl Reeve was asked about the incredible turnout and energy. In reference to the over 11,000 attendees, Reeve said, “The crowd was amazing… We should’ve done it for the gays. We didn’t get it done.” With the Lynx lineup, the energy of Olivia Miles, and the spirit of Napheesa Collier, the Lynx still might get it done for the gays by the end of this season.

Olivia Miles Breaks Paige Bueckers’ Record

Speaking of the number 2 draft pick, Olivia Miles is officially the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 points and 10 assists. Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark previously held the record at 19 games, but Miles completed it in 18. I’m not a betting lez, but if I were, I’d put my money on Miles snatching this season’s Rookie of the Year title.

Marina Mabrey Ties Single-Game Scoring Record

Marina Mabrey hive get up! The Toronto Tempo guard has officially tied with A’ja Wilson and Elizabeth Cambage for the all-time single-game scoring record after scoring 53 points against the Sparks. Throughout her first season at the newly added franchise, Mabrey has consistently put up huge numbers, averaging a whopping 21.2 points per game. If you’ve ever underestimated the Notre Dame alum before, it might be time to get on the Mabrey train because she’s not slowing down anytime soon.

Alyssa Thomas Gets One Game Suspension After Caitlin Clark Incident

After the Mercury and Fever matchup on Wednesday, Alyssa Thomas has been issued a one-game suspension for “recklessly making contact with her fist to the throat area” of Clark during a scramble for the ball. Videos of the moment, which was not called a foul during the game, have gone viral alongside Fever coach Stephanie White’s assessment that the “cheap shots” against the “generational talent” that weren’t called were “unacceptable.” Clark’s conservative fanbase has started circulating an AI version of the moment, which portrays Thomas choking Clark with a grin. Listen, this move on Thomas’ part was reckless, but when Sophie Cunningham’s WWE move from last season was left as a no-call, it’s hard not to point to Clark’s stardom and rabid fandom as the reason for this suspension.

Whatever Natisha Hiedeman is Up To

In a now-deleted Instagram reel, Natisha Hiedeman posed with a pregnant belly in a bodysuit with the caption “Don’t bother voting for me for all star. Love you guys it’s a girl.” Fellow StudBud Courtney Williams chimed in, commenting, “you too bored.” Fan reactions were mixed, with some in on the gag and others confused how she could play a few nights before and hide the belly… bless their hearts. This isn’t the first time Hiedeman has turned to social media for a gag; let us not forget the full glam moment last season.

Brittney Griner & Her Wife Cherelle Open Up About Their IVF Journey

The couple recently spoke with Skylar Diggins and Cassidy Hubbarth for their ANDMOM podcast, during which they discussed their IVF journey. A big part of that process involved coordinating their schedules and trying to find time during Brittney’s off-season in the WNBA.

They ultimately landed on the window after Cherelle had graduated from law school. Unfortunately, just a few months before that was to take place, their lives took a turn. Brittney was detained in Russia that February after vape cartridges containing cannabis oil were found in her bag.

Alexia Putellas Signs With London City Lionesses

Alexia Putellas, queer Ballon d’Or winner known as “La Reina,” is officially leaving Barcelona after 14 years with the team. Putellas was between multiple offers from the NWSL, but London City was the frontrunner for Putellas, who wanted to stay in Europe, remain close to home, and not compete regularly against Barcelona. Putellas, who has been named the Best FIFA Women’s Player, has won the World Cup with Spain and has won the Ballon d’Or twice. She is the top scorer in the history of Barcelona’s women’s team with 232 goals. Only Lionel Messi has scored more than Putellas in Barcelona’s football history.

FIFA Allows Rainbow Flags During Egypt v. Iran World Cup Match in Seattle

Egypt and Iran have filed formal complaints with FIFA over Pride-themed events surrounding their World Cup match in Seattle Friday, but the governing body has confirmed rainbow flags will be permitted inside the stadium.

Both Egypt and Iran criminalize same-sex relations. People have been executed over anti-sodomy laws in Iran. Egypt has seen LGBTQ+ people targeted by authorities.

Emily Sonnett Signs Extension With Gotham

Defending NWSL champions Gotham FC have signed USWNT defender Emily Sonnett in a new contract through 2028. Sonnett, the beloved *possibly queer* player, was set to become a free agent at the end of the season but has resigned ahead of 2026 Challenge Cup. As a powerhouse defender, it’s no surprise that Gotham would race to keep Sonnett on their squad.

Victoria Pelova Signs with Arch-Rival and Hard Launches

It’s been quite the week for former Arsenal midfielder Victoria Pelova. After three years with Arsenal, the Dutch player is officially joining Tottenham. Pelova helped Arsenal win the Women’s Champions League in 2025, among other league titles. Amid news of the signing, Pelova dropped an Instagram post with fellow former Arsenal teammate Laia Codina that many fans have interpreted as a hard launch of their relationship.

Brooke Mayo To Become First Out Gay Referee At The World Cup

Brooke Mayo has been named one of two assistant referees for the match, which will take place on Thursday at Atlanta Stadium. In addition to previously having written about being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Mayo also “confirmed to Outsports that she is both gay and grateful for the support of the wider community.”

Did Olympic Gymnast Rebeca Andrade Just Hard Launch A New Girlfriend?

Fans are cheering on Rebeca Andrade for a whole new reason after the Olympic gymnast appears to have just hard-launched a new girlfriend.

Andrade competed at the 2026 Pan American Gymnastics Championships over the weekend, taking home the vault title on Sunday. She posted a series of celebratory photos to her Instagram stories after the event, one of which included a picture of her sitting on another woman’s lap, in a pose far too cozy for fans to interpret as platonic.

“Thank you for supporting me and being here for this important moment in my life!” she captioned the post in Portuguese. “I love you.”
