Two months ago, after seeing a female cartoon couple kiss in the Pixar movie, Lightyear, Snoop stepped into an internet inferno after declaring he was scared to go to the movies. “I didn’t come here for this s–t, I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” he said in an interview and on the It’s Giving podcast.

The hip-hop artist has since had a change of heart. He teamed up with queer media watchdog GLAAD and some LGBTQ-friendly talent to “send a powerful message to LGBTQ youth” for Spirit Day with a new children’s song, “Love is Love.” Spirit Day has been observed on the third Thursday of every October since 2010 – bringing together celebrities and influential voices to raise awareness about bullying and bullying-related suicides of LGBTQ+ youth.
Snoop Dogg featured the tribute to parents of diverse backgrounds in the latest track of his animated series, Doggyland Kids Songs & Nursery Rhymes. He collaborated with queer musician and The Voice alum, Jeremy Beloate, who has been public about his experience of being bullied as a kid for being queer. In the video, Beloate voices a puppy named Zippy, and Snoop takes the vocals behind dog character Bow Wizzle, leader of the pack and mentor to younger dogs.
Snoop Dogg and Beloate also paired up for a GLAAD collab YouTube chat to promote queer acceptance and support LGBTQ families. The two talked about having been through a lot in their life, enduring bullying in different circumstances. In the video, Snoop talks about the messaging of the song: “It’s teaching parenthood. It’s teaching situations that kids in the world is going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live. And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding.”
“These are things that kids have questions about so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love,” he says.

“Love, love / Love, love, love / Love, love / Love who you are / (Love who you are)… Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change,” the animated dogs sing as one puppy gets a hug. “Families are special / They are so unique / Everybody’s got a purpose, more than what you see / We love you, parents / We love you so.”
