Sir Elton John Joins The Pink Pony Club, A ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel, And ‘Emilia Pérez’ Director Disappoints Once Again

Elton John and Chappell Roan

Catch up on everything that happened in the entertainment world this weekend.

Chappell Roan and Sir Elton John Maximize Their Joint Slay

Just when you thought Chappell Roan’s superstardom couldn’t get more iconic, she reached a new peak. Roan took center stage at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party and her hour-long performance shook the tuxedo-clad audience.

Beyond performing her staple hits in a stunning tailored ensemble, Roan paid tribute to the event’s host with a heartfelt cover of his classic “Your Song” and even invited him onstage for a duet. When John made his way to the piano on stage, they beautifully sang his melancholic tune “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” as Roan proudly beamed watching the queer legend beside her.

After the song was finished, John took a seat in the center of the stage as Roan grabbed a pink bedazzled cowboy hat to place atop his head. She emotionally thanked him saying, “You have sacrificed so much for the queer community and you made it so I could be the artist I can be. So I thank you so much.” The duo then broke out into an exuberant performance of Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” which John played on his Apple Music Radio show years before Roan broke into the mainstream.

For those feeling FOMO for this iconic performance, the full set has been uploaded to YouTube:

This performance falls only a day after Roan took home two BRIT Awards for International Song with “Good Luck, Babe!” and International Artist of the Year. In a prerecorded message, Roan shared her win with the queer community saying, “I dedicate this to trans artists, to drag queens, to fashion students, sex workers, and Sinéad O’Connor. Because of all those people, they have laid the groundwork for me to be here today. I did not give up because of them and I will continue going because of them.”

Jennifer’s Body is Coming Back For More Blood

Yep, you read that right. The 2009 cult classic film is seemingly receiving a sequel, according to the film’s star Amanda Seyfried. In an interaction with fans over the weekend, Seyfried said, “I think we’re making [a second] one.” While she didn’t make any concrete confirmation or give any details about the project she winked at the camera saying, “We’re working on it. We’re working on it.”

While the horror film did not receive critical acclaim in its day, it did gain a cult following and its makeout scene between Seyfried and co-star Megan Fox has become essential viewing for any young lesbian who has ever been tempted to search ‘girls kissing’ on YouTube.

To end this award season in the same way he started it, Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard has once again placed himself in a sticky situation. After winning the Oscar for Best Original Song, the director made his way to the press room where he was asked if he’d like to take a moment to address the trans community as no other speeches had made mention of the film’s main subject.

Instead of giving a statement of solidarity or at least acknowledgment, Audiard said, “Since I didn’t win Best Film or Best Director, I didn’t have the opportunity to speak. But had I had that opportunity, I would have spoken up.” Despite the film centering around the trans experience, there was no mention of the community in the press room or in Zoe Saldaña’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress. Honestly, thank god this awards season is over so we never have to hear about this sinister film again.

Karla Sofía Gascón Tweets About Oscars Joke

During his opening monologue, Conan O’Brien referenced Gascón’s problematic social media saying, “Anora uses the F word 479 times. That’s three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.” When the camera panned to Gascón in the audience O’Brien continued, “If you are going to tweet about the Oscars, remember, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”

In a March 3 Instagram post, Gascón responded to the joke writing, “I really enjoyed it, very amiable and funny, especially your fabulous host Jimmy Kimmel, he is fantastic, every day he looks more like the great Conan O’Brien.”

Queer Stars Take After Party Red Carpets

In case you have somehow missed the collective queer meltdown over Reneé Rapp’s galactic level serve at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, we thought we’d share her and other queer artists’ looks from the Oscars afterparties.

Rapp sent fans into a frenzy when she appeared on the Vanity Fair red carpet in a charcoal Vivienne Westwood gown. On the carpet, Rapp joked about her new music coming out and added fuel to the fire by posting a few TikTok thirst traps. We all thank her for her service.

This duo took the carpet at Elton John’s Oscar Viewing Party and when asked about the current state of LGBTQ+ rights being under attack, Gavin said, “Historically getting the perspective of how hard gay, trans and queer people have had to fight for our health and safety for so long, I think that gives me a lot of comfort because it shows that we have the stamina like we’re just gonna be able to stick around no matter what.” Both artists later shared videos of them singing along as their colleague Chappell Roan took the stage.
