Queen Latifah is famously private about her sexuality. Though she’s often been speculated to be a lesbian, she has opted not to discuss her personal life openly with fans. That’s why a recent appearance by Latifah on “Red Table Talk” has fans talking.
Queen Latifah appeared on the Facebook Watch show alongside her “Girls Trip” co-stars Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, and Jada Pinkett Smith via Zoom. When the conversation turned toward celebrity crushes, Latifah’s co-stars all gushed about their favorite celebrity men. Pinkett Smith named her husband, Will Smith.
But Latifah revealed that her celebrity crush is on another woman: Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima.
“I like the girl. She’s a Brazilian model,” Latifah said, struggling to remember Lima’s name at first.
“Ooh, you’re talking about Adriana Lima. She’s a cutie,” Pinkett Smith replied.
“Oh yeah, that’s my crush. Yeah, she got fire. I like her. That’s my girl right there,” Latifah said, sticking her tongue out playfully.
Lima is most famous for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She was the brand’s longest-running model, walking in over 20 catwalks over the years.
Latifah has certainly dropped a few potential hints about her sexuality in previous years. In 2012, she performed at a Pride event in Long Beach and called the audience “my people.” She also performed a mass same-sex wedding at the Grammys in 2014. The actress played a butch lesbian in 1996’s “Set It Off,” and she later played the bisexual blues singer Bessie Smith in 2015’s “Bessie.” She has also been spotted with rumored girlfriends and partners, but she has never confirmed any of the relationships.
Latifah has explained her unwillingness to discuss her sexuality many times over the years.
“I don’t feel like I need to share my personal life, and I don’t care if people think I’m gay or not,” Latifah told The New York Times in 2008. “Assume whatever you want. You do it anyway.”
