Travel influencers Kirstie Pike and Christine Diaz are headed for another adventure: marriage.
The couple behind ‘On Airplane Mode,’ described as the leading LGBTQ+ travel platform in the U.S., announced their engagement on social media today after seven years together. The proposal came as a complete surprise to Christine, who thought they were taking a work trip to Bora Bora. Little did she know, Kristie had been meticulously planning the romantic moment.
Under the guise of a photoshoot at the Four Seasons Bora Bora, Kristie led Christine to a canoe decorated with tropical flowers. The two paddled out to a secluded sandbar, where an aisle of flowers awaited them. As they were serenaded by a ukulele playing “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, Kristie got on one knee and popped the question.
“[It was] the easiest decision I could ever make,” Christine wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for making me the happiest person in this world.”
In a press release, the couple said they are “beyond excited to embark on this new chapter of their lives together and continue sharing their story with their community.”
The news has been met with plenty of well-wishes and congratulations from friends and fans. Fellow LGBTQ+ travel influencer Kate Sulsenti commented, “congrats angel girls!!!!!”
Melissa Lee, another LGBTQ+ lifestyle and family influencer, shared “I’m so over the moon excited for you both!!!”
Since their proposal, the couple has continued their romantic trip. On Monday, they touched down in the island of Moorea, French Polynesia. With crystal blue waters and a quaint house to themselves, there’s no better place to celebrate their engagement.
The award-winning couple met in New York City and began their travel journey together in 2019, while on a trip to South East Asia. They have been making content for the LGBTQ+ community ever since. They launched their podcast, She Comes With Baggage, in January. The show gives insight into their personal life, relationships and family dynamic. Season two is set to release later this year.
