Authors Crowdfund LGBT Children’s Book

Two writers have started a Kickstarter campaign to help finance an LGBT fairytale

Two authors have created a Kickstarter crowd funding campaign to help finance the publication of a book called “Promised Land,” a fairytale focused on openly gay characters.

The authors, Adam Reynolds and Chaz Harris, say “Promised Land” is aimed at a readership of children between 5 and 10 years old, and tells the story of Leo, a prince, and Jack, a farm boy, who fall in love.

"I wanted to tell the type of story that I never got to see or read myself growing up," said Reynolds.

Reynolds and Chaz are aware that LGBT picture books exist for children, but say, "What there don't seem to be many of globally are fairytales that don't focus the story on the sexuality of the characters/people in it. Our story just happens to feature two lead characters who are young men that meet and fall in love, nobody questions that."

The authors hope the fairytale might make talking about different kinds of relationships easier for parents. They hope to release “Promised Land on National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11), should their Kickstarter Campaign prove successful.
