Anna Kendrick Gives New Update on ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’
Kendrick was tapped to direct the adaptation earlier this year.
Anna Kendrick is feeling the pressure when it comes to her latest directing gig.
It was announced back in June that the A Simple Favor star would be helming the highly anticipated adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. The film adaptation has been in development for some time now, giving fans plenty of opportunity to discuss everything from possible casting to key scenes and everything in between.
“I’m thinking about the fans all the time,” Kendrick recently told E! News during a red carpet interview at the Toronto International Film Festival. “Whenever somebody comes up to me and is like, ‘Oh my best friend or my agent or my so-and-so is—you don’t understand, they’re obsessed with that book,’ I’m like, ‘Give me their number.'”
Elaborating further, she added, “I want to talk to them because I want to know exactly what gets at the heart of it for people and I, of course, have a big task ahead of me and I am desperate to get it right.”
The two biggest questions fans have right now involve casting—who will play Evelyn herself and who will play Celia St. James? A number of names have been floated over the years, with contenders including Adria Arjona and Eiza González for Evelyn and Hannah Dodd or even Kendrick’s Pitch Perfect co-star, Brittany Snow, for Celia. Of course, the question of casting becomes more complex when considering the story is told across multiple decades, which could very possibly result in multiple actors getting to tackle key roles.
But despite fans chomping at the bit for more information, Kendrick indicates that nobody has been cast just yet.
“Do you know what makes me so happy?” she asked. “We’re still in the script phase, so I cannot accidentally say something that will get me in so much trouble.”
