America’s Most Captivating Couples 2007

It was difficult to narrow down the entries, but we finally did it–and the result is the year’s most captivating couples! Ranging from a historic preservationist to a superhero to a TV talk show host (times two), it’s great to see so many proud women, not just in love, but spreading that love around and making the world a brighter place. Their stories inspired us, and we know they’ll inspire you, too. Say hello to this year’s sweethearts.

PAM & ANN

Pam Arnold
47, Graphic Designer

Ann Bancroft
51, Explorer/Teacher

Scandia, MN
These two discovered each other in one of the most romantic ways possible—“across a crowded room,” they say. Little wonder they clicked, as both share a love of working with students. Pam heads a Minneapolis college design firm which employs students when they graduate. Ann, a well-known Arctic explorer, uses “the platform of expeditions to try and ignite a global classroom.” (Ann is leaving March 1 for what she views as her ultimate expedition: crossing the Arctic Ocean ice to the North Pole from the Canadian Coast.) They live in Minnesota, in an area that is a “wonderful woods and farmland mix.” Their nieces think their relationship works “because we work together to push the fun limits.” They say it’s because “[we] allow each other to fly.”
