There is not much better than women’s soccer. But one thing that tops watching badass women play an amazing game is when two teammates fall in love and get engaged(!) To the delight of lesbians everywhere, Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris announced to People Magazine that they’re getting married. The couple has been engaged since September 15, but just spilled the beans to People this week.
Krieger and Harris both play for the Orlando Pride, and first met in 2010, when they were both playing for the United States National Team and honestly, their courtship sounds like it prime lesbian romance novel material. “We always sat next to each other on the bus and on flights, and we kind of just talked about our dreams and our hopes and what we wanted to do one day when we grew up. Because at the time, we were kids,” Harris told People. “The rest has kind of been history.”
Despite their close relationship, and tons of online speculation, the couple has always been on the private side about their relationship. They told People that they wanted to “be professional and make sure that we showed up every day and did our job and it wasn’t just because we were together, it was because we love what we do.” Now, however, they are opening up to their teammates and the media as they make plans to tie the knot. “Finally, after all these years, I just feel like I don’t have to hide anything or feel like I’m not living up to the community I’m in,” Harris said.
Harris is busy training for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, so the two athletes iare hoping for a winter ceremony in Florida towards the end of the year. In the meantime, you can catch them being absolutely adorable and badass on Instagram.
