Their releases might be frustratingly far off, but we can’t wait for the premieres of two lesbian-themed major motion pictures: Freeheld (starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page) and Carol (starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara), coming out in October and December, respectively. Freeheld is the true story of a NJ police lieutenant and her legal domestic partner who try to secure pension benefits after the cop’s terminal cancer diagnosis. Set in 1950s New York, Carol—based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith—tells the story of a department store clerk who falls for an older, married woman.
