Watch out for 26-year-old self-described “media mogul in the making” Aryka Randall. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana resident is the mastermind behind The Fab Femme, a lively blog for and about African-American femme women. “I wanted to help introduce feminine lesbian women of color to the mainstream media,” says Randall. “I want to help depict young women in a better light and share stories that everyone—gay and straight—can relate to.” But she didn’t stop there; her latest project, Girl Play, has been compared to both Sex and the City and The L Word thanks to its sometimes funny and frank discussions about life, love and sex. The web series, set in New Orleans, sheds light on fictional southern lesbian femmes carving out their own careers and identities in the eclectic city. “We all have similar stories to tell,” she says. “We should all do our best to learn about each other and stomp out the discrimination that thrives within the community, as well as the negative stereotypes that are imposed on us.” –NHM
