One The L Word super fan will get their hands on an iconic piece of lesbian history.
A copy of The L Word pilot script, signed by original cast members and creator Ilene Chaiken, is circulating the auction world. The funds raised will support GLSEN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting LGBTQ+ students from bullying and harassment in schools.
Jennifer Beals, who played the artsy, blazer-loving Bette Porter, partnered with the organization to share the auction details Tuesday.
“Let’s give @glsen a holiday gift in thanks for the great work they do! 🎁” she wrote on Instagram. “It is with great pleasure that I’m auctioning off an original pilot script of #thelword (originally titled Earthlings 🤷🏻♀️) signed by cast and the incomparable @ilenechaiken to benefit @glsen.”
“Every student has the right to a safe, supportive, LGBTQ inclusive K-12 education,” she continued. “Through their network of educators, students and local chapters, @glsen works to make this right a pervasive reality. They help schools develop comprehensive policies, supportive educators, and GSAs. These things can truly be the difference between mental well-being and devastating struggle. Let’s help them with their mission. Happy bidding!”
The sapphics are losing their minds over the signed 2002 script, rightfully so. Beals chose to share a particularly steamy section of the pilot where Bette and Tina work to make a baby.
“I’m looking for a sugar mama to bid on this for me lol,” one commenter joked.
“Make this into a script book?? Pleaseee,” another begged. If that ever hits the bookshelves, we will be first in line.
The script is clearly a hot ticket item. The current bid is sitting at $6,000. The auction is set to close on December 20th.
