Love is love. With Valentine’s Day approaching Move Forward Staten Island is excited to announce that it’s 4th annual community benefit concert will support Staten Island’s LGBTQIA+ community, including LGBTQ-identifying Latinx immigrants!

LGBTQ rights are under attack on the federal level and we won’t stand back and watch the hard fought progress we achieved over the last decade, be rolled back by a transphobic administration.

While we continue to resist and fight this current administration’s anti-LGBTQ+ policies, we also have important struggles happening right here on Staten Island.

-The Staten Island St. Patrick’s Parade organizers, the Ancient Order of Hibernians continues to deny the Pride Center of Staten Island from marching openly and proudly in the parade.
-A group of transgender asylum seekers living on Staten Island have filed suit against the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and select officials from the Department of Homeland Security, alleging they have been waiting for an interview on their asylum case for almost three years – something that should happen 45 days after filing their affirmative asylum applications.
-Governor Cuomo has announced his intention to amend New York State’s constitution to make gender identity and sexual orientation protected classes. We have work to do to ensure Staten Island elected officials vote unanimously in favor of the proposed amendment.

Join Move Forward Staten Island for our community benefit concert where we’ll raise funds to support organizations on Staten Island committed to protecting, expanding and celebrating Staten Island’s beautiful LGBTQ+ community. Funds raised will benefit L’unicorns, Pride Center of Staten Island and Move Forward Staten Island.

About the Organizations:

The mission of the Pride Center of Staten Island is to enhance and sustain the well-being of the LGBTQ and allied communities by providing programs and services that cultivate community; advocate for LGBTQ interests; educate and empower; and provide social support.

L’unicorns is the first Latinx LGBTQ group on Staten Island. The group has created a safe space for the LGBTQ Latinx immigrants where members can share information, access education, cultural opportunities, and critical resources. They function under the umbrella of La Colmena Community Job Center.

Move Forward Staten Island is a non-partisan organization focused on moving social justice issues forward in the community through civic engagement, education, grassroots organizing, and policy advocacy.
