NewFest 2015

The highly anticipated international film festival delivers accurate and meaningful onscreen portrayals of LGBT people

Presented annually since 1988, the New York LGBT film festival celebrates fine domestic and international film as part of NewFest’s mission to break through closet doors and glass ceilings everywhere. One of the most comprehensive showcases of international LGBT film in the world, NewFest is returning to New York from October 22 to October 27.

As the mainstream film industry is still chock-full of exceptionally heteronormative content, we always look forward to NewFest and the diverse and refreshing lineup it offers. Now celebrating its 27th year, NewFest is offering a diverse and compelling lineup of narratives, documentaries, shorts and parties. While featuring content over a wide variety of genres that will surely be worth a watch, this year promises some extraordinary women's programming.

The majority of the screenings will take place at Chelsea Bow Tie Cinemas, with a handful of programming taking place at the LGBT Community Center. One of the highlights of the festival will be the centerpiece screening of the film "Carol" on October 23 at 7:30pm. Directed by Todd Haynes and starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, "Carol" tells the story of two women who begin an illicit love affair in 1950’s New York. This is the most hotly anticipated lesbian-centric film in recent memory, perhaps of all time, and while advance tickets are currently sold out, there will be a limited number available for purchase day-of at the theater.

We recommend you do your best to catch all of the fantastic women’s programming this year, so GO is offering a special discount code through NewFest!
