The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will present a Virtual Astronomy Live program on Thursday, July 16 from 5:30PM to 7:00 p.m. EST. This free event will explore the experiences of astronauts and how their extraordinary voyages in space can kindle creative expression. Many astronauts have been inspired to use art and photography to convey the sense of wonder they feel when they look down on our home planet.

NASA astronaut Donald R. Pettit, along with Andrea Meado, a geoscientist for the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit at NASA Johnson Space Center, will share their experiences with artistry inspired by space.

The event will be hosted and co-produced by John “Das” Galloway, founder of the Kerbal Space Academy, and moderated by Summer Ash, an astrophysicist, rocket scientist and freelance writer.

The livestream can be seen here: https://kerbalspaceacademy.com/intrepid.

The event is suitable for all ages. For more information and to register, visit www.intrepidmuseum.org.

This is the fourth in a monthly series of Virtual Astronomy Live programs. The next iteration on August 20 will feature Spaceflight and Gaming.

Participants

A veteran of three spaceflights, Pettit served as NASA Science Officer for Expedition 6 in 2003, operated the robotic arm for STS-126 in 2008 and served as a Flight Engineer for Expedition 30/31 in 2012, where he lived aboard the International Space Station for more than 6 months. Pettit used the camera and his outstanding photography skills on orbit to capture great views from space including imagery of the stars in an artistic way.
