Queers! Queers! ATTENTION! Gay Twitter and TikTok have been shaking in their boots, honey. Kwn and Kehlani finally hard-launched each other on social media—and while some reactions have been positive, others have been…well, not so much.

Let’s break down how the hell we got here in the first place. So sit back and cue the song that had us all on our worst behavior.

It started with a Valentine’s gift to the gays

Kwn’s “Worst Behavior (Remix)” featuring Kehlani—a sapphic Valentine’s Day drop that instantly became one of the gayest music videos of 2025. Neon lights, longing glances, a kiss heard ‘round the internet—it was giving chemistry.

Fans immediately started connecting dots. Was it just a creative collab or something more? By October, speculation turned to confirmation when both artists hard-launched each other on TikTok: Kehlani resting her head on Kwn’s shoulder, Kwn pointing to Kehlani with the caption, “Every day I get on this app, people flirting with my wife.”

The videos, now deleted, sent the internet spiraling.

Social media chaos

Shortly after the news went viral, Kwn addressed the backlash in a TikTok, saying the public’s reaction had taken a toll on her mental health.

“There’s lies that are being told that are just not true,” she said. “And the toll that that takes on people’s mental health, when you’re seeing things like this, it’s just crazy.”

She also clarified rumors about overlapping timelines: “My last relationship was in 2021, 2022, and when I met Kehlani, she was very much single. I don’t know what timeline you lot think you’re piecing together, but it’s wrong.”

In another post, now deleted, Kwn admitted that staying silent “might’ve been best” for them both, hinting that she’d be stepping back from social media for now.

Fan reactions: the good, the bad, and the discourse

Reactions were mixed. Some fans were all in—celebrating the visibility of a high-profile POC queer couple and posting heart emojis under every clip.

But the internet being the internet, others had… critiques. Some accused Kehlani of only dating studs that look like they could be cousins and of “moving too fast,” pointing to her public dating history. Others framed the discourse as parasocial, misogynistic, or outright slut-shamey—questioning why a queer woman showing affection sparks outrage when men in the industry do the same. While there are those who disagree and call it pattern recognition.

The hard launch also opened up a deeper sub-conversation—one about colorism within queer relationships. TikToker Rina Colada’s viral video pointed out that colorism doesn’t only exist in straight dynamics.

“Colorism shows up in queer relationships too,” she explained. “We usually talk about it in a heterosexual sense—how colorist men don’t want to date dark-skinned women because they’re ‘too masculine’ or ‘too rough.’ When it comes to colorist women, we hear the same thing but in reverse—avoiding light-skinned men because they’re ‘too soft,’ ‘they’re princesses,’” while idealizing dark-skinned partners as more protective or grounded.

The video, which was a response to tweets listing Kehlani’s past partners, urged people to think about how colorism intersects with desirability and visibility—even in queer spaces that pride themselves on inclusivity.

Still, many fans pushed back, arguing that Kehlani’s dating history shouldn’t be turned into a discourse dump every time she posts a partner.

So…are fans overreacting or just observing?

The backlash begs the question: are fans overreacting, or are Kehlani and Kwn being unrealistic about social media’s appetite for mess? Maybe both. Maybe neither.

One thing’s for sure—the couple’s visibility has cracked open conversations about boundaries, projection, and the complexities of queer love in the public eye.
