The Idol actress Lily-Rose Depp has recently captured the attention of wlw Twitter with one simple word: boyfriend.
During an interview with MTV UK to promote her new movie Nosferatu, which is also very gay but we won’t get into that right now, Depp shared an adorable anecdote about her relationship.
The interviewer brought up Ellen, Depp’s character, who gives Thomas (Nicholas Holt) a locket with her hair inside. While some might find this odd or a bit unorthodox, Depp was quick to call the gesture “cute.”
“I have a locket of my boyfriend’s hair,” she giggled. “Kind of like in the movie…I like lockets. I think they’re very romantic.”
The locket of hair was overlooked (can we talk about that?), but her use of boyfriend was not. Lesbians across the internet are feral over the term- love it or hate it. And straight people are…confused.
“Guys lily is dating 070 shake (a girl),” one person commented under the interview clip, which was shared on TikTok.
“As Lily said boyfriend, we’re respecting her terms,” MTV UK replied. Okay ally!
@mtvuk Lily-Rose Depp keeping a locket with her boyfriend’s hair in is SO cute 🥹💖 who else can’t WAIT to see Lily and Nicholas Hoult in Nosferatu on New Years Day? 🧛🏻♂️ #lilyrosedepp #nosferatu #nicholashoult #filmtok #mtvmovies ♬ original sound – mtvuk
“lesbian boyfriends have entered the mainstream oh my god this is a momentous day,” commented another.
“her calling shake her boyfriend ugh i want a love like that.” Don’t we all?
The clip has spread to X, where the gays have no shame in sharing their opinions. In fact, the number of tweets discussing the interview caused the term ‘lesbian boyfriend’ to hit the ‘trending’ tab.
“i hope lily-rose depp never stops calling 070 shake her boyfriend so she can keep pissing off all the people who are afraid of gender non-conforming lesbians,” one user posted.

For those who have some negative thoughts about Depp using ‘boyfriend,’ this fan writes it off as jealousy.
“single asf but mad at lily rose depp for calling 070 shake her boyfriend.. butch on her arm, no butch on your arm,” the tweet reads.

This is not the first time Depp has used the term ‘boyfriend’ when discussing her relationship with the musical artist. In November, she shared a photo from a listening party for Shake’s album Petrichor, which was released on November 15.
“A night I’ll never forget!!!!!!!!! Petrichor ballet wtf! My boyfriend is so cool,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
070 Shake, whose real name is Daniela Velez-Brito, has previously described her sexuality as “unlabeled” and uses she/her pronouns. Depp is also keeping her sexuality unlabeled, telling Nylon in 2016 that she will “date whoever [she’s] going to date.”
The couple has been together since January 2023.
