“I’m a dyke, I’m a dyke, I’m a dog dog dog,” begins the lesbian punk song at the beginning of this 2000 ‘dykeumentary.’ Made by documentary filmmakers Mary Jo Godges and Renee Sotile, this hilariously chaotic video captures a Dykes and Their Dogs Contest held in West Hollywood. 

“This is the most fun thing that goes on the whole year,” said one contest goer. “It’s better than New Year’s Eve.” The contest features categories like Most Butch, Most Femme, Best Singer, and of course Best Owner Look-Alike. Contest footage begins around the 4:00 minute mark and you won’t want to miss the harmonica playing dyke with a four-legged choir, the high energy pups with performance anxiety or the uncanny resemblances in the look-alike contest.
