This Lesbian Cricket Drama Keeps Getting Messier. Here’s What Happened
Suddenly we’re all very interested in cricket.
Some people are drawn to sports for the love of the game. Others, because of the intrinsic opportunity for drama off the field/court/rink/etc between players that eventually makes its way to social media.
If you fall into the latter camp, it’s time for us to have a chat about cricket.
Cricket, which is sort of like baseball but with an entirely different set of rules, may only just be gaining traction in the U.S., but it’s hugely popular in Australia (among other places). That means scandals within the sport are immediate tabloid fodder, and the women’s national team is currently going through it after cheating accusations dropped over the weekend.
It all started with a bombshell report from the Daily Mail claiming that the vice captain of Australia’s women’s team, Ashleigh Gardner, cheated on her wife, Monica Wright, with one of her teammates.
The two had been together for five years before getting married in April 2025. But by the time the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup rolled around later that year, an insider alleged there was something “a little bit weird” going on. After an awkward visit between them in India, where the World Cup took place, the source claims the two had a sit down chat that virtually ended their relationship.
“Ash left one day. Monica came home and everything of Ash’s was gone, except for the rings,” the source told the Daily Mail. “She left the wedding rings in the cupboard. Just the box of wedding rings, and that was it.”
Now, allegations by an anonymous source in a tabloid don’t always hold a ton of weight—especially when the other party involved was never mentioned by name. But in this particular scenario, the article prompted Wright herself to weigh in on social media.
Sharing a screenshot of the article to her Instagram stories, she wrote, “Nah this shit is too vague. I’ll tell you exactly what happened.”
On a second slide, Wright shared a picture of Gardner’s teammate, Georgia Voll.
“This is who my wife cheated on me with,” she said.

The fact that she not only named names but also didn’t dispute any of the article’s claims has cricket fans assuming that there’s more than a little bit of truth to this chaotic turn of events—and they’re absolutely mortified.
drama so good I’m fishing out info from my cricket correspondent willingly https://t.co/mv9RSccT9f

…okay, and more than a little bit intrigued, too.
While neither Gardner nor Voll appear to have commented on the drama publicly (yet), they’ve both turned off comments on their Instagram accounts. Meanwhile, Wright—who also switched her comments off—appears to have unfollowed her estranged wife on the social media platform, deleted all photos that included her, and has not been shy about posting pics of her living her best life in recent months.
Something tells us we haven’t seen the end of this drama just yet, so like any good cricket wicketkeeper, we will be keeping our eye on the ball.
