What advice do you have for baby lesbians?

Lesbians, we love very differently because we love so intimately. My advice to baby lesbians—try to be more mindful of the people you choose to share that privilege. It is a privilege because, like how we love differently, we hurt differently. That hurt is very intense, and could have a long-term impact on your relationship style, your attachment style, and your capacity to form a long-term healthy relationship. So while we want to jump in and expedite the process, just be more intentional and take things a little slow. It’s a soul exchange.

What are your queer hot takes?

Firstly, mascs are not the same as butches. Secondly, if you chronically date people that look like you, like your twin—I think there’s something to investigate within.

Hinge or Tinder?

Hinge for serious relationships, Tinder for hookups.

What’s an ick you have that’s normalized within the lesbian community?

You’re not gonna believe this—not tipping. The amount of lesbian couples that come into my job, signal they know I’m queer, spend $50—no tip. [When] I have a gay server? I tip 30%, at least. Like, where’s the solidarity?

U-Haul or take it slow?

U-Haul, if I like her enough.

Who was your gay awakening?

Marina Diamandis. The way she carries herself and her aesthetic—that was very fun to witness. I was very intrigued.

What are you most excited to do this spring, now that the sun’s out?

Wearing close to no clothes. Get tattoos. Go out with someone, under the sun, in the rain. So excited to see the shawties looking hot.

What’s your queer hot take?

Queer people represent [themselves] with belts and not hats enough. This is my third time in New York, and I’ve seen a bunch of queer people with cool belts. There weren’t enough hats.

Rings or carabiners?

Carabiners.

Who’s your favorite canceled celebrity or influencer?

Chappell Roan. Let her do what she wants.

What’s your favorite thing about being queer?

I like all the people I’ve met—they’ve been queer-coded, and I love them very much. It makes me very
happy and feel like I can just go out and be weird with them.

What is your zodiac sign? What’s your least and most favorite star signs?

Taurus. I don’t think I have a favorite, [but] I don’t do Sagittarius.

What do you consider a lesbian green flag and a lesbian red flag?

Green flag—be really secure in your lesbianism, not questioning that. Red flag—still hung up on your ex, which happens a lot. I try to be friends with my ex. It’s complicated.

Who was your queer awakening?

Britney Spears. When those commercials first came out, they were so hot.

U-Haul or take it slow?

I just got myself out of a U-Haul, so I am team take it slow.

Natalie. 36, She/HerSoftware Engineer

What’s your queer hot take?

I’m a gold-star lesbian, and my type is bisexuals. They’re more forward.

What makes a perfect queer night out?

Hanging out with my queer friends [and] flirting.

What’s your go-to move?

My go-to move is no moves. My move is to hope someone makes [a move], which is why bisexuals
work out. Otherwise, it’d be two lesbians staring away from each other, trying to make eye contact, but no one makes a move.

What’s your queer hot take?

There’s a lot going on in our community and we’re not there for each other. When our community is going through something, we don’t try to uplift them. We make fun of them, or we put them down.

What’s your advice for young queer people today?

I would love for them to be leaders, not followers. Do the right thing by people and you’ll get the great thing in the end. Anything you want to do, put your mind to it.

After this hell of a winter, what are you most excited about for the spring?

Enjoying the nice weather, being able to be free, being myself. Compliment people, make sure they’re good. Let’s not put [bad energy] in the atmosphere.
