Reneé Rapp Gets Sappy, Sapphics Win Big At AMAs, And ‘Hacks’ Is Coming Back

Everything you need to know in gay entertainment this week.
Reneé Rapp Opens Up With Amy Poehler
On the most recent episode of Amy Poehler’s new podcast Good Hang, Reneé Rapp dished on meeting her girlfriend Towa Bird for the first time, the story of their first “I love you,” and coming out as lesbian on SNL.
Like the lesbian world, Poehler is obsessed with Rapp and Bird’s relationship and asked Rapp about the first time they met. Rapp shared that she had begged a friend to introduce them, and when they met, Bird was “so f*cking mean” to her. “I was like, ‘I’ve heard so much about you,’ and she was like ‘why are you talking so much about me then,’” Rapp shared of their first conversation, which Rapp found ‘hot.’
Later, when asked about who said ‘I love you,’ Rapp detailed the moment—they were sitting on the beach, the sun was setting and TikToker Flossy Baby was sitting behind them. When Bird confessed her love, Rapp didn’t immediately respond. “I was high, distracted by Flossy Baby, so I was like, there’s no way she just said this to me.” But Rapp quickly “lock[ed] back in” and returned the sentiment.
Rapp also opened up about her decision to come out as a lesbian in a sketch on SNL last January. When queer SNL writer Celeste Yim pitched that Rapp would be referred to as a “little bisexual intern,” Rapp started to question whether or not she should just come out once and for all on the show. Knowing she might disappoint bi fans who identified with her, Rapp explained that she had been thinking about the lesbian label for months before finally pulling the trigger in the sketch. “I love being a lesbian and I love the lesbian community so much,” Rapp said. We love a lesbian pop star!
Billie Eilish Takes Home Big Wins And JLo Gets Bi At AMAs
At the American Music Awards this weekend, Billie Eilish took home all seven of her nominations, winning Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year among others. While she—and almost every other exciting artist—was not in attendance at the award show, she graciously thanked her fans via video message.
Fellow queer stars Doechii, Megan, and Gaga also walked away with wins in their respective categories.
Ahead of her headlining performance at World Pride Musical Festival on June 6, Jennifer Lopez took to the AMA stage to perform a puzzling medley, singing one singular song of her own, and then dancing to songs by other nominated artists for five minutes. Then JLo, who is famously not bisexual, made out with both a male and female dancer as Teddy Swim’s “Lose Control” played in the background. Serve, I guess?
Hacks Renewed for a Fifth Season
Get up Hacks nation, we’re so back! HBO Max officially announced that the award-winning and lesbian-claimed show has been renewed for a fifth season. After a heart-wrenching finale last week, in which I fully thought Ava and Deborah were going to kiss (anyone else??), I, for one, cannot wait to see what this fifth season has in store.
In a video message released by HBO Max, Hannah Einbinder (Ava) shared her excitement and promised fans, “Don’t worry, I will continue to pitch the lesbian arc.” Einbinder really is out here doing the Lord’s work, and we love her for that.
Lola Young Reveals Sexuality in TikTok Comment
“Messy” singer Lola Young has revealed her queerness in a new comment on a recent TikTok. Under Young’s lip sync video to Irish singer CMAT’s “Take a Sexy Picture Of Me,” a fan commented, “no man deserves this,” to which the singer responded, “i like p***y as well u kno.” We love when a mullet wearer is confirmed queer.
