Potential WNBA Signing To Reunite Fiancées DeWanna Bonner And Alyssa Thomas

After a season of long distance, DeWanna Bonner’s potential signing with the Phoenix Mercury could reunite the WNBA power couple.

Love was in the air at Monday’s Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings WNBA game as rumors swirled that DeWanna Bonner would be signing with the Mercury and reuniting with her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas. Sitting courtside next to Mercury president, Bonner watched as Thomas achieved a Triple Double scoring 15 points, recording 10 rebounds and 15 assists.

The couple shared a touching hug after the game, making WNBA fans swoon. After a dramatic exit from the Indiana Fever last month, Bonner received a standing ovation from the Mercury crowd. Her signing with the team would be a full-circle moment as the Phoenix organization drafted Bonner in 2009 and won two WNBA Championships with her over her 10-season stint with them.

Bonner and Thomas met as teammates on the Connecticut Sun in 2020, fell in love, and eventually got engaged over All-Star weekend in 2023. The two entered long distance this season when Thomas was traded to Phoenix and Bonner moved to the Indiana Fever.

Bonner’s name made headlines when she abruptly sat out five Fever games due to ‘personal reasons’ and then got waived by the team at her request. “Despite our shared goals and excitement heading into the season, I felt the fit did not work out and I appreciate the organization’s willingness to grant my request to move on, particularly at this point in my career,” said in a statement. Bonner also made waves with an Instagram post captioned, “A QUITTER!! Nah never been that!! But when the time comes… ‘Let’s just make sure the apologies, are just as loud as the disrespect!!’ IN DUE TIME ..” The WNBA is nothing if not dramatic.

Also in the stands of the game was Azzi Fudd, Paige Bueckers’ rumored girlfriend, donning a shirt with the All-Star’s picture on it and spotted holding Bueckers’ hand as they left the arena. Despite the tumult of the league with its unexpected trades, waives, and changes, the sapphic love remains a constant.
