New content on OurChart.com, the official lesbian social network of The L Word television series, came to an abrupt halt in November for reasons that remain unclear. Insiders speculate that the sour economy may have stopped the flow of posts at the site, which is owned by Showtime, the premium cable network that also owns The L Word.
Surprising news of the change was broken on Nov 21 by Advocate.com. They reported that OurChart.com would be “shutting off all content effective immediately,” and that the entire staff had been let go. The site, though untended, will remain live for the time being.
Former OurChart.com Managing Editor Grace Moon confirmed those details in an e-mail she circulated widely on Nov 22. Reached later by GO, Moon declined to comment on the reasons why she and her staff of 20 contributors were released, or the long-term future of the project.
OurChart.com was founded as a company in late 2006 by Ilene Chaiken, creator and executive producer of Showtime Networks’ The L Word, and a prominent group of women from the entertainment and technology industries.
