‘Modern Family’ Star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons Comes Out With A Classic Lily Line

Anderson-Emmons used a fan-favorite moment from Modern Family to come out during Pride Month.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, best known for her deadpan-delivering performance as Lily Tucker-Pritchett on Modern Family, has found a perfectly full-circle way to come out—by quoting herself.
In a Pride Month TikTok, the now-18-year-old lip-synced to one of the sitcom’s most memorable moments: Gloria tells young Lily, “You are Vietnamese,” and Lily shoots back, “No I’m not, I’m gay, I’m gay!” Anderson-Emmons laughed through the audio, then added the on-screen text, “people keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi).” She later shared the clip to Instagram, captioning it with, “happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe” — a cheeky nod that fans quickly recognized as peak Lily energy.

Anderson-Emmons played Lily from age 4 until the show ended in 2020, growing up alongside two of TV’s most beloved gay dads, Mitchell and Cameron. The comment sections quickly filled with fans joking that Mitch and Cam would be “so proud,” while others celebrated the moment as “truly iconic.”
In the years since the show wrapped, Anderson-Emmons has stayed close with her onscreen family. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell, recently joked about getting sent to voicemail when calling her. “She’s like, ‘Oh God, my TV dad’s calling me,’” he quipped to Us. But he also reflected on how much she’s grown. “She’s a different human being now,” he said.
That “different human being” is also stepping into her musical era. Performing under the name Frances Anderson, she released her first indie-pop single, “Telephones and Traffic,” in May and is dropping a follow-up track, “Don’t Forget Me,” later this month. She’s also expressed interest in a Modern Family spinoff, though for now, school and music are the priorities.
