Another Member Of Girl Group KATSEYE Comes Out. Happy Pride!

Megan Skiendiel

Megan Skiendiel joins fellow bandmate Lara Raj in coming out, making KATSEYE one of the few K-pop groups with multiple openly queer members.

Megan Skiendiel didn’t make a huge production out of it. She was sitting on a livestream with her KATSEYE bandmate Lara Raj, talking with fans, joking around, and testing out hair extensions when she paused and asked, “Should I just do it?”

Then, without much fanfare, she said the words: “Guys, I’m coming out, I’m bisexual.”

The tone was casual, but the moment carried weight. Megan is now the second member of KATSEYE to come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community, following Lara, who shared her own story earlier this year.

The two burst into laughter and jumped around, clearly riding the energy of the moment. Megan admitted she was nervous. “I’m like scared now,” she said, before laughing again. Then, trying to lighten the mood, she added, “Guys, I came out on Pride Month … so give me that award, girl,” referencing the Blooming Impact Award Lara received from the LGBT Center in Los Angeles in May.

Lara responded, “Next time she gets the Blooming Impact award and hey, I’m gonna present it to you and be like, ‘hey, I was the first, you were the second.’” She followed that with, “I’m proud of you, Megan. Everyone say, we love bisexuals!” Megan echoed back, “We love bisexuals, and while I’m at it, let me also raise awareness about psoriasis. I have psoriasis.”

This wasn’t entirely unexpected. Last month, during another live session, Megan had responded to fan speculation by mouthing the word “bi” and confirming it with a nod:

But this was the first time she said it clearly, on her own terms.

Lara, who came out earlier this year by saying “I knew I was half a fruitcake when I was like 8,” has spoken openly about the fear she felt around being public with her identity. “I was really, really scared tbh,” she told fans. “I didn’t know if people would accept me, and I really thought it would ruin my chances of getting in [the group].”

Megan, in a recent Teen Vogue interview, also talked about what it’s like to figure herself out under the public eye. “I don’t even really truly know who I am yet,” she said. “That’s a big reason why I’m still experimenting with everything… it’s nice to figure out what I like and who I want to be and who I am.”

The fan response has been largely positive, with many sharing support and appreciation for Megan’s openness. One fan wrote, “Megan feeling comfortable to come out as bisexual so casually on live makes me so happy for the girls. They really get to be their true selves in this group.”

KATSEYE is still early in their journey as a group, but they’ve already made space for something rarely seen in K-pop: a band where multiple members feel safe enough to come out.
