Is romance in the air?

Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope are sparking some serious sapphic rumors after sharing a kiss on the ‘gram.

Morris recently visited NYC to attend a certain spectacle of a wedding at Madison Square Garden. While in town, she also spent time with fellow singer (and longtime pal) Cassadee Pope.

While Morris posted some cute pics and videos of the hangout with the simple caption, “a time was had,” it was Pope’s Instagram story that drew attention.

“she won’t go out with you because she’s out with me, silly,” she wrote over an image of the two of them kissing.

Fans immediately—and understandably—had questions. Was this a relationship hard launch? Just gals being pals?

After the news exploded on social media, an “insider” told the Daily Mail that Pope is in a relationship and this was merely a kiss between friends.

“Girls kiss each other sometimes, it’s not a big deal,” they said. “It was just a cheeky kiss between friends. But because of Maren’s coming out a few years ago people are making it into something it’s not.”

Two things can be true here: a kiss isn’t proof of a romantic relationship and it’s completely logical for people to assume two people who kiss are dating.

In fact, one could argue that it’s actually a good thing that this kiss—which Pope posted online herself—sparked relationship rumors. That’s certainly what would have happened if the same image had been posted of a man and a woman instead. But with ladies, we’re supposed to jump to the conclusion that locking lips is simply a matter of friendship? Please. Even if it really was just friends messing around, this alleged inside source insinuating fans are the ones being weird “making it into something it’s not” sounds like the one who needs a reality check.

Regardless of the truth surrounding that kiss, Morris and Pope don’t seem too bothered by the assumptions it created, as neither have addressed the rumors on social media.
