Lifetime To Debut First-Ever Lesbian-Centered Holiday Film, ‘Under The Christmas Tree’

“Under the Christmas Tree” follows in the footsteps of last year’s “The Christmas Setup,” the first gay-centered holiday romance featured in Lifetime’s holiday line-up.

This holiday season, Lifetime will debut its first-ever lesbian-themed Christmas movie, “Under the Christmas Tree.”

The film stars Elise Bauman as career businesswoman Alma Beltran and Tattiawna Jones as “Christmas tree whisperer” Charlie Freemont. Charlie has been hired by the Maine governor’s office to find the perfect tree for an annual holiday celebration. While she does find the perfect tree, there’s just one hitch: it just so happens to be Alma’s beloved family tree that grows in her parents’ backyard.

“While they initially spar,” the Lifetime film description reads, “romantic sparks soon begin to fly between the two women as the enchanting tree and some Christmas fairy dust from the town’s pâtissière extraordinaire … bring out the best in them and spark each other to take leaps of faith and fight for love and Christmas magic.”

The film also stars Rikki Lake as the “pâtissière extraordinaire.”

“Under the Christmas Tree” follows in the footsteps of last year’s “The Christmas Setup,” the first gay-centered holiday romance featured in Lifetime’s holiday line-up.

Speaking to “The Wrap” earlier this year, Lifetime’s head of programming Amy Winter told the publication that “It’s very important for us to feel like people can tune into Lifetime’s season and see themselves here,” adding that such a film “has to be well-written and it has to be delightful.”

She also told the publication that “Under the Christmas Tree” is one of many inclusive films the network has planned, more of which will debut in the 2022 season.

The film also follows in the footsteps of last year’s “Happiest Season,” staring Kristen Stewart and directed by Clea DuVall, the first-ever lesbian-centric holiday movie produced by a major studio

“Under the Christmas Tree” debuts on Lifetime on December 19. You can watch the trailer here.
