It’s been a gay girl summer, with plenty of queer music drops, tours, and festival performances. Some of our queer favorite artists who popped off this year are getting their flowers.

Megan, who released the biggest female rap album of the year, scored four nominations. Her song “Boa” is up for Best Hip Hop, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects. Her song “Wanna Be” featuring GloRilla is nominated for Best Collaboration.
Billie Eilish has had quite the year with the release of her album Hit Me Hard and Soft and her recent collaboration with Charli XCX on “Guess.” Her song “Lunch,” which brought out a more naughty side of the singer, has been nominated for Video of the Year. Billie’s hit Barbie song “What Was I Made For” is up for Video for Good, a category that highlights social and political videos.
SZA has also been nominated for Video of the Year and Best R&B for her song “Snooze.” The singer wrapped up her first arena tour in May in support of her newest album SOS. The success has earned her a nomination for the VMA’s biggest award: Artist of the Year. Drake’s song, “Rich Baby Daddy,” featuring SZA and Sexyy Redd is up for Best Collaboration and Best Hip Hop, putting SZA in seven categories.
Chappell Roan, who has reached unprecedented levels of queer fame, has predictably been nominated for Best New Artist. The drag-inspired singer is also up for MTV Push Performance of the Year for her March performance of “Red Wine Supernova”.
Victoria Monét has taken home multiple awards this year, including the Grammy’s Best New Artist and BET’s Her Award, and she could be adding two more to the list. She’s been nominated for the Push award for her December 2023 performance of “On My Mama” and best R&B.
Voting is open on MTV’s website. Winners will be announced September 10 at 8pm EDT.
