‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel Allegedly Set To Film This Fall
Here’s what we know so far.
Fans awaiting an update on the Jennifer’s Body sequel are in for some good news—the movie is rumored to be going into production this fall.
Production Weekly listed “Jennifer’s Body 2″ as an upcoming production slated to begin filming in Vancouver this October, according to a screenshot shared by World of Reel. Most importantly, the listing seems to confirm leads Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox will both be returning, Karyn Kusama will once again direct, and the screenplay, of course, comes from Diablo Cody. Mason Novick also appears to be returning as producer.
The possibility of this highly anticipated sequel has been seeping out slowly over the past several years. Cody expressed interest back in 2024, Seyfried made it sound like a real possibility the following year, and last October, we got our biggest update yet when Kusama said that Cody was actively working on the script.
“I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it,” she said. “I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”
The original film was sorely underappreciated upon release, which both fans and the creative team largely attribute to marketing that was misrepresentative of what Jennifer’s Body actually was. But in the nearly two decades that have followed, it easily amassed a cult following.
For the uninitiated, the film follows two best friends (Seyfried and Fox) who stumble into trouble when an indie rock band visits their small town and decide to sacrifice a virgin in order to become famous. As tends to be the case, things do not quite go according to plan, leaving the two friends at odds with one another and a whole trail of dead boys around town.
The film was also laced with sapphic undertones (that do get called to the surface—don’t worry), making it a queer fave on top of everything else.
For those who have seen Jennifer’s Body, the question of where will things go from here is a tantalizing one. But as long as the bodies keep dropping, it’s bound to be a good time.
