‘Drag Race’ Producers Spill The Tea On Upcoming Feature Film

With filming underway in LA, World of Wonder teases a new chapter for the ‘Drag Race’ franchise.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race universe is officially leveling up again. After more than 15 years of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent reshaping pop culture and transforming queer visibility on TV, the producers behind the Emmy-winning franchise have confirmed two major new ventures: a feature-length film and a Broadway-bound musical.
“I guess it’s no secret,” said World of Wonder co-founder Fenton Bailey in a recent interview with Variety. “There’s an untitled ‘Drag Race’ movie coming. It’s shooting in Los Angeles; we’re keeping it local.”
That’s about as much as he’s willing to say for now. Plot details are being kept under wraps, and it’s unclear whether the film will take the form of a documentary, a fictional narrative, or a hybrid somewhere in between. What is clear is that the Drag Race train isn’t slowing down any time soon.

World of Wonder isn’t new to long-form storytelling. In 2021, the company released The Bitch Who Stole Christmas, a campy holiday movie starring RuPaul and a cast packed with Drag Race stars like Peppermint, Jaymes Mansfield, Ginger Minj, and Jan.
The movie isn’t the only big move. After five years of shows on the Vegas Strip, RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! has officially hit 1,000 performances at the Flamingo Hotel, and now its next act is hoping to grace the theater world’s most coveted stages.
“‘Drag Race: Live!’ just celebrated its 1000th show [in Vegas], and we are taking that and developing it for stage, ideally Broadway and London,” said executive producer Randy Barbato.
And if you’re wondering where it might debut, Barbato isn’t shy about the ambition. “We were thinking about starting in the West End, but f*ck it, let’s just go to Broadway.”

With 15 international franchises already aired and at least one more (hello, Drag Race: South Africa) officially announced, it’s no surprise that fans are also eyeing subtle signs of what’s next. Some eagle-eyed observers noticed a Drag Race: Japan logo appear in a brand partnership graphic shared by Bailey.
Meanwhile, the main series shows no signs of slowing. All Stars 10 is airing now, with All Stars 11 and Season 18 already rumored to be underway.
And even with that much content on their plate, Barbato and Bailey continue to tease more surprises. “Things are happening, but they can’t be revealed yet,” Bailey said cryptically.
Eventually, all will be Ruvealed.
