BCPC Community Leadership Awards and Gala

Tomorrow night, the BCPC will be honoring individuals who have made a difference in the community at their annual Gala

Tomorrow night, the Brooklyn Community Pride Center will be hosting their Community Leadership Awards & Gala, along with Co-Chairs Kate Frawley and Terrance Knox, at the gorgeous DUMBO Loft on 155 Water Street in Brooklyn. The Community Leadership Awards honor individuals who have made a difference in the community and whose work has positively influenced its members.

This year's extremely deserving honorees are filmmaker Desiree Akhavan, LGBT ally Hudson Taylor and the amazingly inclusive Citi. Akhavan's influential 2014 film Appropriate Behavior tells the story of Shirin, a Persian woman who keeps her bisexuality hidden from her family, much to the disappointment of her ex-girlfriend. It is a refreshingly honest film that gives voice to the bisexual members of our community who too often cannot find one in mainstream media. Taylor is the Founder and Executive Director of Athlete Ally, a non-profit organization that provides public awareness campaigns, educational programming and tools and resources to foster inclusive sports communities. Taylor, who is not gay, became increasingly aware of the pain caused by homophobia in college, when he saw some of his LGBT friends falling victim to anti-gay abuse. He realized this type of behavior had no place in sports, and took action to help eradicate it.

The Gala will begin at 6pm with an hour-long VIP reception, followed by cocktails and the main program at 7pm. This portion of the evening will feature an open bar, special food offerings and a dynamic silent auction, all to be enjoyed with the sounds of the one and only DJ Robi D Light.

Following the main program will be the highly-anticipated after-party from 9pm to 11pm boasting the musical stylings of the incomparable JD Samson. Since all proceeds from the Gala will directly impact the ongoing programs and projects of the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, you can let loose at the end of the night knowing that you are partying for a truly great cause.

The amazing sponsors of this worthwhile event are as follows: BFC Partners, CITI, Gay City News, Brooklyn Brewery, CHUBB, The Williams Capital Group, GO! Magazine, Tito's Handmade Vodka
