22 Lesbian & Non-Binary Players In The 2023 World Cup

Even if you’re not into soccer, the abundance of queer people is reason enough to tune in.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup is just around the corner, and it is set to be the gayest one yet. At least 87 of the competitors are openly part of the LGBTQ+ community, which is over 12% of all competitors. Even if you’re not into soccer, the abundance of lesbians is reason enough to tune in. To get yourself acquainted, we’ve compiled a list of 22 queer World Cup players for your viewing pleasure.

Megan Rapinoe is a legend (but you already knew that). This is her fourth World Cup, two of which ended in a championship win, and in 2019, she won both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. Aside from her long list of sports accolades, she is also a fierce advocate for fair pay in women’s sports and for the LGBTQIA+ community. She was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020 and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. She is retiring after this World Cup, and we are expecting her to go out with a bang.
