Cocktail Recipe:

•1.5 oz bourbon

•1 oz pear purée

•0.75 oz fresh lemon juice

•1 oz five-spice syrup*

•Peychaud’s bitters

Add all ingredients except for the bitters and soda to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into a chilled glass over fresh ice, then top with club soda and three dashes of Peychaud’s bitters. Garnish with an edible flower and enjoy!

*Five-Spice Syrup Recipe:

• 1 cup water

• 1 cup demerara or raw sugar

• 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half

• 3 whole star anise pods

• 1 tsp whole fennel seeds

• 1 tsp whole cloves

• 1 tsp Sichuan peppercorns (black peppercorns also work)

In a dry saucepan over medium heat, lightly toast the spices for 1–2 minutes until highly aromatic. Add the water and sugar to the pan. Stir until the sugar dissolves, bring to a gentle boil, then remove from heat. Let the mixture sit, covered, for 20–30 minutes to steep. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into an airtight container and store in the fridge.
