Queer Creatives Reclaim Trans Masculinity In The Ring

In this photo project, trans-owned brand Nova Edge Threads teamed up with trans creatives at Brooklyn’s queer boxing gym.

Through sweat, touch, intertwined forms, and gym-ready transmascs, photo project Submissive reclaimed the gendered gym space and looked good doing it. Creative producers Miles Quezada and Olivia LIT LIV Morgan teamed up with local, trans-owned brand Nova Edge Threads to reclaim “boy” hood with a group made up of all trans People of Color. Nova Edge Threads is a Queer, Trans & Intersectional Pride Shop that officially launched this June with the goal of supplying “wearable tools for pride, protest and confident self-expression.”

Set in OutBox, a trans-owned boxing gym, the models got to live their retro gym fantasy without the gendered constrictions of athletic spaces. The shoot itself even became a space for community as the models shared their experiences with testosterone, what packers they use, their personal journeys, and everything in between. “Entering the shoot, with a group solely formed by Trans People of Color, I felt a sense of home, friendship, and immediate connection with all the guys in the space,” said model Caroli (Ro) Nalosco.
