Julia Fox has always been difficult to pin down, both in her art and in her personal life. From boundary-pushing red carpet fashion to her unapologetic candor in interviews, the Uncut Gems actress has built a reputation for living in extremes. Now she has clarified something that fans have speculated about for years: her sexuality.

In a new cover profile for Allure, Fox explained that she identifies as pansexual. “I’m pansexual; I could be attracted to anyone and anything,” she said. “If it were just down to the physical, I’m more attracted to the female body. Men don’t do it for me at all [physically], but I can be attracted to a man’s mind. I’m a vibes person.”

The revelation seems to confirm half-confessions she has made in the past. In 2022, Fox told Ziwe that she had “a gay bone” and needed to “explore that a little bit more.” Then, in July of last year, she jokingly called herself a “lesbian” in a TikTok video about hating her boyfriend. Later that same year, she shared that she was open to dating women, but stopped short of using any specific labels.

This time, though, the language is clear. Fox not only identified herself as pansexual but also reflected on the process of realizing it. “I think women have a harder time [realising they’re queer] because we are so programmed to perform for men,” she told Allure. Looking back on her friendships, she admitted she often mistook intimacy for platonic closeness. “Looking back, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, we were in a relationship.’ But there was no way I was going to admit that to myself, and I couldn’t because so much of my survival was hinged upon men taking care of me.”

For Fox, this acknowledgment comes alongside a larger shift in how she relates to men altogether. The actor revealed that she has been celibate for more than two years, something she described in June 2024 as “the consequence of men’s repeated actions.” She is clear about her priorities now, telling Allure: “The way my life is, I can’t see why a man would be beneficial. I’m laser-focused on being a good mom, on being a good provider, on making my dreams come true. There’s just so much more you can do with your time than waiting around to see if a guy’s going to text you back or not.”

Fox also acknowledged that she is not completely shutting the door on men in the future. Still, her words suggest she has little patience for them in her current life. “I don’t have to entertain men anymore,” she said, adding that when asked if she missed them, her answer was a simple “No, not at all.”

Fox’s comments mark the first time she has publicly defined her sexuality without leaving room for speculation. For fans who have followed her candidness about queerness over the years, her decision to call herself pansexual offers clarity in her own words.
