We want to hear from you at this open forum to discuss NYPD presence and corporate involvement at NYC Pride events.

With long-time community activist and Director of Community Relations at GMHC, Krishna Stone and Andre Thomas, NYC Pride Board Member and Pride Island Director facilitating, we ask that you bring your feedback to the mic. Let us know your opinions about responsible ways to reduce NYPD presence at events like The March, Pride Island & PrideFest. Share your thoughts on criteria for corporate involvement at NYC Pride events, and what you’d like to see from NYC Pride to better serve our diverse community.

The Pride movement was born out of a response to the police brutality that took place at Stonewall in 1969. Similary, NYC Pride’s newly established Community Council was born in response to the many years of continuous police brutality against BIPOC & the LGBTQIA+ community, including the clash between NYPD & members of the LGBTQIA+ community on June 28th. The Community Council’s goal is to help advise NYC Pride on the best ways to form productive & effective policies that work to reduce NYPD presence from our events, establish a stronger set of criteria for corporate involvement within our programming, identify weaknesses within our membership recruitment, diversify our membership base, and establish stronger relationships with the community we serve.
