Womens Event 18 Honorees Announced

The annual event celebrating LBT women to honor Janelle Monae and others

Women’s Event 18 will take place on November 7, 2015 at Capitale in New York City. Hosted by The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, Women’s Event is an annual gala fundraiser to support The Center’s year-round programs and services for lesbians, bisexual women and transgender people. It is also a celebration of women who have positively impacted our community through their artistry, activism and advocacy.

This year, The Center will present international recording artist Janelle Monáe with the Equality Award. This award acknowledges Ms. Monáe’s immense talent, dedication to artistic expression and commitment to achieving equality for the LGBT community. In an entertainment industry that often fails to show our community adequate support, Ms. Monáe has always been an advocate of female empowerment, gender equality and LGBT rights.

Other award recipients include; legendary producer Barbara Gaines, who will receive the Trailblazer Award in recognition of her contributions to the LBT community. In her 19 years as a producer for “Late Show with David Letterman,” Gaines received 14 Emmy nominations and won five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Program. Citi Managing Director Lisa Davis will be presented with the Corporate Impact Award. In addition to her responsibilities as Managing Director, Ms. Davis led the Citi PRIDE Network NYC Chapter as Co-Chair from 2011-2014 and now leads a Citi Women Emerging Talent program focused on identifying and growing the next generation of women leaders. Women’s Event 18 will also include a special tribute to marriage equality pioneer Edie Windsor.

“Women’s Event is a unique opportunity to celebrate the women of our community, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the night with Barbara, Edie, Janelle and Lisa,” said Glennda Testone, Executive Director of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. “These women embody the spirit of the event with their steadfast support of the LGBT community and activism to achieve women’s equality, and it’s a great honor to have them with us.”

Directly following the event will be the after party at Capitale sponsored by Hot Rabbit! This is your chance to dance off all of the amazing food you’ll eat, in the company of beautiful women, to the beats of DJ Roze Royze while enjoying a top shelf open bar and dessert bar.
