Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Comes To Nina West’s Support After Controversial ‘Drag Race’ Elimination

She knows what’s up!

On a controversial and dramatic episode of Drag Race, queen Nina West from Ohio was sent home much to the disappointment of fans. While many fans were outraged at the decision and sad to see Nina West go, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to social media this weekend to give a shout out to the performer after catching up on the latest Drag Race episode.

In a clip posted on Reddit, Ocasio-Cortez posted an Instagram story to offer her thoughts on the episode and to acknowledge Nina West’s contributions. She offered the following commentary about the episode:

“I don’t always get to watch Drag Race on Thursdays when it comes out, I have to catch up on the weekends because work is insane, and I just caught up and I am so sad. No spoilers, but to the queen that went home this week, just know how important you are to the bigger picture, and I’m so proud of you and your fundamental kindness and goodness. I’m really looking forward to watching you grow. You’re amazing, and I’m sad, but I’m excited for you.”

Nina West is well known not only for her performances on Drag Race, but as a philanthropist raising money for LGBTQ causes. Ocasio-Cortez also pointed out her philanthropy in a tweet she posted on Saturday night. The post linked to an article from Out Magazine reporting that Nina West raised more than $2.5 million for local queer and trans communities in Ohio.

Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “In our house, we name a Queen of Hearts @NinaWest that is YOU! Thank you for being a relentless example of kindness, consciousness, compassion, and courage. Thank you for using your gifts to focus on voices + issues that deserve all the shine and elevation in the world.”

The replies to Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet were filled with support for Nina West and disappointment over her elimination.
