New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Features The Series’ First-Ever Lesbian Kiss

It’s the first same-sex kiss in the entire 40-year history of the “Star Wars” franchise.

“Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” premieres on Friday, and it features a lesbian kiss. It makes history as the first same-sex kiss in the entire 40-year history of the “Star Wars” franchise.

Director J.J. Abrams previously explained that LGBTQ representation was important to him in making the film.

“And in the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film,” Abrams told Variety before the film’s release.

Don’t get your hopes up for a whole lesbian love story, though. The kiss scene is very brief. Blink, and you might even miss it completely, fans say.

“In a celebration sequence in the film, two female members of the Resistance share an exuberant kiss during the joyful moment. They are minor characters and not heavily featured in the film,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Because of the briefness of the scene, some queer “Star Wars” fans have criticized the film for not being nearly inclusive enough.

“A throwaway moment in the background with nameless extras is not particularly brave or groundbreaking,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Save the breathlessness for when they give us someone with a name in the story.”

“This. Is. Not. Good. Enough!” a non-binary fan wrote. “Yes, it’s great that there’s a lesbian kiss in it. However, the idea that this is representation is laughable. LGBT+ people exist! We are not background characters! We are people with stories that can and will be told!”

One lesbian fan even joked about how the new obscure lesbian characters are her favorites.

“Unnamed Lesbian A is my favourite Star Wars character,” she tweeted.

Others, however, are still praising “Star Wars” and Disney for catching up to the times.

“F*cking astounding that it took until the year of our lord 2019 for a lesbian kiss to be allowed on film THANK YOU DISNEY AND STAR WARS,” one fan tweeted.

Many fans were hoping that a gay love story between Finn and Poe would come to life instead, but a brief lesbian kiss is what they got.
