Marvel Is Casting Their First Trans Woman Superhero

They want a trans actress to play the role. AHEM, Angelica Ross?!

Marvel is officially scouting their first transgender superhero!

Geeks WorldWide reports that Marvel Studios recently issued a casting call for “a transwoman actress of any ethnicity in her 20s to 30s” for the role of “Jessica.”

It’s not clear who “Jessica” is exactly, nor what movie she will appear in. But insiders believe that she’s most likely to appear in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” because the Thor comics feature Marvel’s only trans woman superhero character: Sera. Sera is an Anchorite, a type of wingless angel. Marvel introduced the character in 2017.

The movie also already features an LGBTQ storyline. In July, Tessa Thompson announced that she will play Marvel’s first openly LGBTQ character in “Thor: Love and Thunder.” She’ll reprise her role as Valkyrie, who is bisexual in the comics. The movie will feature her searching for a queen to rule at her side in New Asgard. It’s possible that “Jessica” or Sera is the queen that Valkyrie is looking for — but so far, all of this is just a theory.

Filming is set to begin in 2020. Due to the timing of the project, “Jessica” could also appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” or “Hawkeye, Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

While we wait for more details, one actress is already vying for the role. Angelica Ross of “Pose” fame tweeted: “Ummmm @Marvel? They keep asking if I’m joining the family. You want to tell ‘em? #Marvel Studios.”

We can’t wait to hear more!
