Joy Silver asked the question: “What will happen to us when we age, or are in need of help, and who will provide those services particularly since some of us have alternative family structures?” She answered by founding RainbowVision Santa Fe, an adult community with condos, rentals and assisted living, now in its third year, where the LGBTQI & A population lives in the majority. With a fitness center, salon, restaurant, cabaret, and an event space, RainbowVision has become “the de facto community center for the Santa Fe LGBTQI+A,” according to Silver, hosting a wide range of ages and sexual identification at its many events. “Living through the AIDS crisis taught us that care through the end of life–medical and mental health challenges – may not necessarily be related to becoming elderly. The benefits that RainbowVision provides to our community are that there is now a place, and options for us that have never existed before.” – KW

Adrienne Carruth

Adrienne Carruth designs vacations as she does award-winning architectural projects – with European pizzazz and adventure. Carruth founded Abroad for Adventure in 2004, incorporating both her worldwide travel expertise and design-construction background. A self-proclaimed “planner and travel guru,” Carruth’s freestyle group travel offers women an affordable experience with an eye for luxury and a taste for adventure. After years of planning her own vacations, Carruth wanted to spread her sense of adventure travel “focusing on the needs of gay women, not vacations catering to gay men where
lesbians just tag along.” Hosting all trips herself and keeping groups to an
intimate 10 to 12, Carruth integrates ideas from around the world with the flexibility for women to do what they would like. Also a seasoned marathoner, Carruth adds, “Running through some of the best cities in the world allows me to add local color and flavor you don’t get from a tour bus!” – KD
