Video Of The Day: Is This Why Amber Ruffin Was Fired From The White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

Amber Ruffin

Was Amber Ruffin’s fearless comedy too much for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to handle?

Amber Ruffin’s latest remarks about the current administration prove she’s bringing her fearless energy to this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner—at least, she was supposed to. In a newly surfaced clip, the out comedian calls the administration “a kind of a bunch of murderers” and makes it clear she had no plans to play nice in her WHCA speech.

“There’s no way I’m going to be freaking doing that, dude. Under no circumstances,” she said after being asked to keep her jokes “equal.” The video was shared by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich, who questioned why any “responsible, sensible journalist” would attend the dinner at all. Now, just days later, the WHCA has pulled the plug on Ruffin’s appearance, abruptly canceling its traditional comedic set and claiming a desire to move away from “the politics of division.” The timing, of course, speaks for itself.
