The Very Best of TV/FILM

Cinemarosa festival in Queens, and more…

Mar 16, CINEMAROSA, Queens’ only LGBT film series, screens two powerful films about the female queer experience. Women in Love is a masterful collage and autobiographical journey of lesbian images, women’s sexuality, emotional moments, and heart-wrenching loneliness. It examines the human ability to redefine ourselves and reshape what we think “love” means. The Future is Behind You creates a fictional story composed from an anonymous family archive from 1930’s Europe, reconstructed to emphasize gender acculturation in two sisters who play, race, fight, kiss and grow up together under a shadow of oncoming history.

Contempt. That’s what ex-typist Brigitte Bardot has for husband playwright/screenwriter Michel Piccoli—but why? Does she think he used her to get that lucrative assignment (to rewrite an adaptation of The Odyssey) from overbearing American producer Jack Palance? Was it that (innocent) fanny pat to multilingual interpreter Giorgia Moll? Or does she just “not love him anymore?” Find out in Contempt, New Wave wild man director Jean-Luc Godard’s sexy, masterful movie on movie-making—from post-Hollywood filmmaking to the pitfalls of international productions—at Film Forum Mar 14–27.

And don’t miss Queer Black Cinema’s 3rd Annual Fades of Black Women in Film Showcase, Mar 27 at the LGBT Center. This year’s event honors the work of Cheral Dunya (director of Watermelon Women and Stranger Inside), plus shorts and trailers from other emerging black lesbians or bisexual filmmakers.
